Mark Kleinhaut Quartet presented by Capital District Jazz
Jazz guitarist Mark Kleinhaut, a relative newcomer to Saratoga Springs, has been performing, composing and recording for decades. In 2013, Kleinhaut was included in Scott Yanow's book, The Great Jazz Guitarists, The Ultimate Guide published by Backbeat Books. During Kleinhaut's thirty year career, he has recorded over 60 compositions, released six albums including a Jazzweek Top 20 disc with saxophonist Bobby Watson, and an album with trumpeter Tiger Okoshi. Now, upon arrival in the capital region, he has set out to re-form his quartet by enlisting some of the most accomplished and respected musicians in the region to join him: Chris Pasin-trumpet, John Menegon-bass and Bob Halek-drums. Of this lineup Kleinhaut says, "I think of these gentlemen as alchemists bringing elements to the music that recombine in the moment to create something fresh, and truly spontaneous." The Mark Kleinhaut Quartet promises an evening of creative and energetic music that is melodic, uplifting and best of all fun. All Ears: Jazz and Improvised Music Workshop is a fun hands-on way for students of all ages to learn about jazz and improvised music. The instructors teach participants how to play using a traditional teaching method utilized by many of the jazz greats. This ?play by ear? method develops a student?s listening skills and along with the step-by-step guidance provided by the faculty, allows students to achieve results quickly.
